Chateau Gloria 2022
Country: France Region: Bordeaux
Varietal: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 9% Petit Verdot, 6% Cabernet Franc
Vintage: 2022 Colour: Red Style: Dry
Producer: Chateau Gloria
Producer Description:
This château was created in the 1950s by the late Henri Martin who was also the regisseur of Château Latour. Consequently it does not appear in the 1855 classification but surely would if it were ever updated. Along with big brother Saint Pierre, the quality here has improved massively in the last few years and this is a top St Julien performer these days. There are 50 hectares of vines which are planted 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot. Usually St Julien's best value.

96/100 Points
"Quite a scented and fresh Gloria with lovely fragrance and firmness. Nothing overstated this year, showing beautiful texture and restraint. This initial balance as well as sharp-etched tannins will give it the ability to age."

94/100 Points
"Deep plum colour, plenty of tannic grip that delivers poise and a frame that holds the deeply concentrated spices, sandalwood, campfire, cassis, blueberry, eucalyptus and mint. Edge of exuberance without going overboard."

94-96/100 Points
"The 2022 Gloria was picked from 12-26 September and matured in 40% new oak, slightly less than the Saint-Pierre. It has a perfumed, floral nose with crushed violet infusing the black cherry and blueberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with sumptuous tannins that belie the structure underneath. With pure fruit and well-judged acidity, this 2022 is sensual with a persistent and lightly spiced finish. Superb."
Tasting Notes:
An inky purple hue to go with medium to full-bodied aromas and flavours of crème de cassis, ripe black cherries, spicy oak, and graphite. It's a pure, layered, elegant yet concentrated Saint-Julien that fans of the region will love.
Food Pairing:
Grilled red meats (steak, beef tenderloin), rack of lamb with herbs, roasted duck, game, and aged cheeses like Comté or Gruyère.
