Les Forts de Latour 2019 Paulliac
Country: France Region: Pauillac, Bordeaux
Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot Blend
Vintage: 2019 Colour: Red Style: Dry
Producer: Chateau Latour
Description:
Created in around 1680, Château Latour is one of the oldest vineyards in the Médoc. There is a central plot known as the Enclos which consists of 47 hectares of old vines that are maintained with extreme care, as they are the ones that are used to make the grand vin. Another 18 hectares of external plots, consisting of vines that are less than ten years-old and potentially declassified plots are used to produce the property's second wine, Les Forts de Latour.
Latour's wines show exemplary consistency, whatever the quality of the vintage. Firm, tannic and concentrated in their youth, they require long cellaring to reveal the full depth of their power and extraordinary richness. When perfectly mature, the wine has an incredible bouquet of blackcurrants, hazelnuts and leather. A monumental wine.
2020 Forts de Latour
95/100 points Lisa Perrotti-Brown
"A blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26.5% Merlot, and 3.5% Petit Verdot, the 2020 Les Forts de Latour is deep garnet-purple coloured. The nose is very closed to begin, slowly offering glimpses at crushed blackberries, mulberries, and cassis notes, followed by hints of aniseed, black truffles, and underbrush. The medium-bodied palate is very tightly wound with loads of vibrant black fruit and earthy layers and a firm, grainy backbone, finishing long with a compelling lift."
