Description:
We're at it again! It's International Sauvignon Blanc Day and we're celebrating with a Mystery White that we think is one of the best examples of the grape you'll find at this price point. We can't reveal the name just yet, but we can tell you it's 100% certified organic, 100% vegan, and made with a philosophy that is as thoughtful as the wine itself.
The producer behind this wine has been committed to sustainable, environmentally responsible winemaking for generations. Their certified organic programme, officially recognised since 2011, is built around minimal intervention, both in the vineyard and in the winery. The grapes are grown on a family vineyard that has been farmed meticulously, without the use of chemical fertilisers or pesticides, and the wine itself is made using wild fermentation with only the natural yeasts from the vineyard and grape skins. No shortcuts, no compromises.
The result is a Sauvignon Blanc that is vibrant, expressive and full of personality. Lemon in colour with hints of green, the nose jumps out of the glass with pawpaw, passionfruit and fresh herbs. On the palate, it's tropical and textural with lemongrass running through it, and it finishes with a lovely zesty crispness and bright acidity that makes it incredibly refreshing.
James Suckling gave it 90/100 points, describing it as a tropical fruit salad of papaya and passionfruit with bright pink-grapefruit freshness and a character-building touch of bitterness on the finish. Hard to argue with that.
This is a wine that's made to be enjoyed now — and at €78 for 6 bottles on International Sauvignon Blanc Day, there's no better time to open a bottle (or six).
